Australian people are proud of their history and you can see that when you visit their countless museums filled with Australian art and culture. But if you're fascinated more about political history then swing by the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House in Canberra.
At this museum, you can learn how Australia has evolved over the years, both socially and politically. You'll learn a lot about Australian history when you step through the doors of this museum - its collections and exhibits are housed in the country’s Old Parliament House. This historic building served as the home of Australia’s Federal Parliament from 1927 through 1988.
Behind the walls where historical decisions were made, you can find a myriad of fascinating rooms – each with its own story. In the Prime Minister’s Office, you’ll be able to view a space where three Australian political leaders – Gough Whitlam, Malcolm Fraser and Bob Hawke – have all worked.
Also worth a look is the Cabinet Room, where a group of senior ministers would meet and make major government decisions. While Cabinet meetings were confidential in nature, you can explore this space and get a sense of what these gatherings were like.
